A few opinions recorded by visitors extracted from the visitor's book maintained by the Maunathul Islam Association, Ponnani :-
I visited the registered office and buildings of the above association this morning, and was much interested in all I saw and heard. At my suggestion this visiting book was opened, and I trust there will be many other visitors, besides myself, to enter in this book their appreciation of the association's aims and objects.
The Sabha has my entire sympathy and good wishes for its continued prosperity, which, as far as one can see, is being ensured by the able presidentship of the Valiajarathingal Thangal and active management of and by the committee.
I wish the association every success in the furtherance of its praiseworthy loyal aims and objects.

I was very glad of the privilege of visiting the premises, and of meeting many members of the Sabha at a meeting in support of secular education to which the Valia Thangal most kindly lent his support. I wish hearty success of the Sabha.

I have had much pleasure in visiting the building of this association and in seeing the students at work, and also had the pleasure of an interview with the revered president. The aims and objects of the association are most praiseworthy. I am sure that the views of other visitors with regard to the encouragement of secular instruction would, if carried, greatly benefit the community. I again thank all those concerned for the interesting visit I have had here and wish the Sabha all prosperity.

Visited the Maunathul Islam Sabha office. It has given me greatest pleasure to see the good work done by the Sabha. Of all the public institutions started by Mohammedans this is the most useful one I have ever seen.

I have been most interested in visiting the remarkable institution, and have much appreciated the courtesy shown in giving full information about it to a Christian Missionary. I wish we Christians were as successful in marking converts ! May the goodness of One God rest upon us all and keep us all zealous in serving Him. With best wishes to the promoters, especially in the matter of certain of the aims with which one warmly sympathises.

I was very much pleased to go round the buildings of Islam Sabha with Khan Bahadur Attakoya Thangal and others and was very much struck with the thoroughness of the organization. The arrangements are every thing to be desired and I have the great pleasure to state specially that the sanitary arrangements are up to date and leave nothing desired.

I visited the Maunathul Islam Sabha today and I am very much pleased with all the arrangements so far made by the Managers of the institution. The management have taken great care about the sanitary condition of the new converts. But I understand that the Sabha has not sufficient fund to make other improvements which the authorities are anxious to make as early as possible. This unique institution deserves all encouragements and help from the Muslim public of Malabar and rest of India. I wish all success to the association.

I visited the institution this day ; and the clerk Mr. Gul Mohamed had the kindness to take me round the place. I am extremely pleased to see that an institution with the small finance at the central to work with is doing such immense good to the new converts. But for this institution one can imagine the greater number of difficulties that a new convert has to undergo before he will get assimilated in the common fold of Islam. Due to the financial difficulties only a short period can be given to a new convert to undergo the preliminary training. A class for teaching Quran is absolutely essential. Benevolently inclined public are earnestly requested to see to this extreme necessity to the association and do the needful.

I have today visited the headquarters of this Islam Sabha and I am very impressed with all I have seen. This is most excellent work that the association is doing for Islam and it should be supported financially by all true Muslims.

I was glad to go round and see this institution. While it is a matter for satisfaction that local effort has set up this activity and is keeping it going, it is the duty of Muslims everywhere to see that the institution gets more funds and is able to do more for those who join the Faith. I hope I shall have the opportunity soon of discussing with the president some lines on which impro vements ought to be done. I shall continue to take the keenest interest in the work of this Sabha and shall be prepared to do my best always to assist its progress in whatever humble way I can.
I desire this enclosure applied for the improvements to the women's section.

Accompanied by Syed Mohamed Abdul Hai Sahib, Tabhligh secretary of the Central Jamiat-i tabhlighul Islam, I visited Ponnani, met the president and other responsible workers of the Maunathul Islam Sabha and inspected the buildings where the converts are lodged and the office maintained. I looked through the several registers and books maintained by them and found them very neatly and regularly kept. The president and other office bearers gave me a good deal of information about this institution. I glad heard quite a lot about this association and am glad to have got at last an opportunity of seeing its works with my own eyes. I cannot help admiring the devotion, perseverance, and selflessness with which the works of this Sabha have been carrying on its noble work for the last 36 years and more. The accounts of all receipts and expenditure have been accurately and systematically maintained and they enjoy a reputation for honesty which they fully deserve. I find that there is a rush of converts which makes their present resources and accom modation inadequate and it is time for the Muslim public to supplement the funds of this Sabha with donations and contributions. I congratulate the Sabha on its excellent work and wish it every success. Of course Syed Mohamed Abdul Hai Sahib shares my views and wishes.

I was brought over here by a friend of mine and had the pleasure of seeing the different arrangements made for imparting religious studies to people. It is very satisfactory to note that hundreds of persons are being given religious instruction here. It is indeed very gratifying that the building is very up to date in its sanitary and ventilation conditions. The institution deserves all the help from every true Muslim. I hope that every Muslim who visits this place will do his best to further the interests of this praiseworthy institution.

AN APPEAL
From
Khan Sahib V. Syed Mohamed Bin Musthapha
Hydros Atta Koya Thangal, President, Maunathul Islam Association, Ponnani
To
THE MUSLIM WORLD
The Maunathul Islam Association, Ponnani is well known throughout the Muslim world as a charitable institution with its characteristic feature of service to Islam. It is the only Muslim institution of its kind in the whole of India that has withstood the test of 39 years. Founded in 1900 it was, by the good grace of Allah the Almighty, registered in 1908 under section 26 of the Indian Companies Act of 1882, with the below mentioned aims and objects:-
a) Attempts for introducing all reasonable ways towards the welfare
of the Islam community promoting education, charity, etc.
b) Removal of mistaken views and imparting fresh principles.
c) Seeking redress at the hands of Government for all grievances that
may occur to the community in common.
d) Settling disputes amicably among Muslims.
e) Instructing new converts to Islamism in all things chiefly necessary at the expense if the income of the association will permit and so forth.
f) To procure landed properties with the sum left defraying the
expanses on behalf of the association as wakaff.
Of the above the item (e) had to be particularly and exhaustively attended to from the very start of the Association because new converts began to come in large numbers from various parts including such distant places as Burma, Bombay, Ceylon, Madras, Singapore etc. to embrace Islam. This evidently shows that in the whole South India the Maunathul Islam Association is the only institution of its kind that works towards the welfare of the converts, embracing the Holy Faith of Islam.
Special accommodations have separately been made at great costs for male and female converts who are decently provided with food, cloth and medical aid and to whom are imparted the cardinal tenets of Islam under expert supervision. This is done within a month and after that for those longing to study Quran separate arrangements have been made for six months course and in special cases for longer period.
The number of converts thus secured and aided by the association from the year of its inception to the end of 1938 is 22,020. In the years 1936, 1937 and 1938 1242, 703 and 750 new coverts respectively have sought and received the aid of the association A comparative study of the figures for any number of any immediate proceeding years with an equal number of any immediate preceding years with the exception of 1936 reveals the fact that with the passing of years the number of converts to the Holy Faith of Islam that the Association has had to entertain has been, Allah be praised, on the increase.
The landed properties, besides an elephant, assigned to the association under wakaf rights by some of the well to do Muslim philanthropists and purchased by the association with public subscriptions now make a capital of about Rs. 1 lakh for the association. This capital, though great, is not in the nature of yielding much rent, because it includes the costs of huge buildings and premises occupied by converts free of rent. The annual income actually derived direct from the capital of the association is somewhere about Rs. 5,000 less all incidents such as taxes, rent collection charges etc. whereas the yearly expenditure incurred by the association is about Rs. 18,00 and odd, the deficit being mostly balanced by the charity box collections and public donations received through the representatives known by the names of Receivers appointed by the association in several places. Had it not been for the exemplary gift of landed property measuring 5 acres with all improvements thereon worth about Rs. 12,500 out of his extensive estates in cranganore by Janab Ismail Hajee Essa Sait Sahib Bahadur, M. L. C. of Mattanchery, Cochin the capital of the association would not have gone so much high.
Owing to the inadequacy of the housing facilities new additions had to be made to the existing buildings every now and then and the new work of constructing an extensive ward for female converts with a prayer hall has been completed. This has been effected at a cost of more than Rs. 6,000 including the cost of site which comes to Rs. 2,000 or so.
The association is becoming more popular; its activities more appreciated and its usefulness more felt than heretofore and as such converts are likely to come in larger numbers than in the past years.
With the progress of work of the association, it has been realized that an industrial section, wherein could be found some sort of relief for the discharged poor converts by introducing suitable industrials under the auspices of the association, has become a sine qua non. This also requires a huge capital.
To meet the growing necessities of the association, the landed properties yielding rent have to be raised to at least 4 lakhs of rupees worth, because public subscriptions cannot always be depended upon for purposes like these.
In the absence of Baithul-mal, it is incumbent on every Mussalman, male or female, to support the cause according to his or her mite, for the Holy Faith of Islam is the only religion with Allah for humanity that has actually given to the universe practical liberty, equality and fraternity.
In view of the above mentioned circumstances I beg leave to make an earnest appeal to the Muslim world for funds with the pious hope that it will have a ready and hearty response.
May Allah pour His choicest blessings and peace upon our Guide and Master, Prophet Mohamed ! may He guide all of us to lead a peaceful and religious life ! May He protect us from all evils! May He bestow His eternal bliss upon us all ! Ameen.
M. I. Association, I beg to remain,
Ponnani, 10-8-1939 Dear brotheren in faith,
Yours Islamic fraternally,
